don't let the non-descript cover fool you! most of the canadian cbc transcription records i've run across are good, but this is hands down my favorite. it is a split release of sorts by the bands "sunship ensemble" and the "electric ninja group." the result is the perfect mix of modal jazz w/ asian (not cheesy) touches. The liner notes are a really rewarding read, check it. “…The musical materials of all the pieces were drawn mainly from the Pacific basin cultures. “Atlantis Rising” represents, for the Sunship group, a starting point of European-based modal structure, dissolving into free-flowing samba-flavoured drum and tenor solos. The titles of the Sunship compositions Mesopotamia” and “Inca” reflect their inherent sympathies with ancient, mythic cultures and present a contrast between the dense, rich textures of the former and the deft, syncopated guitar punctuation by composer Alan Sharpe in the latter.Read the liner notesthe track i'm posting is from the album, comp'ed on ready or not vol 2., and not even my favorite track. the whole thing is really excellent from start to end. DivShare File - 07 sunship ensemble - atlantic rising.mp3seek out the cbc/ready or not comps for more quality jazz from canada. ted moses and nick ayoub are highly recommended.

yeah that dervieux album is great. follow this link for more on Dimension M. he dedicates it to the three doctors who prolonged his life just long enough for him to record this last great lp. another piece of trivia -- he was the keyboardist for canadian heavyweight jean pierre ferland. i have some of ferland's stuff, it's quite good. i've heard that sixtoo is working with him...but i'm not sure in what capacity. on with the show..

stop buying records for a little while and get yourself a portable turntable so you can acutally listen to your records!! or sell one of your "raer" toys! i can sell you one cheap turntable for listening pleasure if you like!
its one thing to collect for the sake of collecting, but if you isnt listening to them, kinda pointless eh??

lofa cool finds. where did you get those from? jellys? i haven't found any good hip-hop in awhile. definitely get yourself a turntable. numark portables are pretty cheap and have rca's outputs. i've been finding a lot of cheap stuff online lately..it's been rough locally. although i must say that stylus has really terrific rock. i found pantera's - far beyond driven which i love for the planet caravan cover last time i was there. other stuff.. phenomenal jazz psych type record. not for everyone but i like it. this is a double. i found a minty copy at detroit soul. up for trade if anyone is interested. this record is so good! I also found this amazing hawaii punk record from the 80's that I've been looking for, for a very long time. i will post a whole long spiel about that later.
